The Lake House
The lake house is an old washing house from the turn of the century and is located just a few metres from the water of Båven. In the past, farm workers would wash clothes (and themselves!) inside. Water was hand pumped from the lake and heated in a large cast iron bowl, before being pumped into a large washing bath. We have retained some of the features in the conversion, as today the washing bath is a large shower next to the sauna.

The renovation of the house began in January 2003 and took five months. We have retained period features, but you will find the house to be extremely comfortable, with a large kitchen, electric and wood burning stoves, electric floor heating, dishwasher and all appliances, incl. TV/video and kitchen appliances. There is a large relax room, with modern sauna with dry heat and steam controls, an open fireplace and large shower and downstairs toilet with washing machine and baby changing station. There is also a small conservatory from where you can enjoy the view over the water. Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms, with a total of 7 beds plus 2 temporary beds. All the bedrooms have exposed beams and beautiful views over the lake. There is also a shower and toilet upstairs, with heated floors and towel warmers. The water is pumped from the lake, UV irradiated and filtered and is perfectly safe. All the toilets are standard water toilets and all waste is collected in underground tanks. The house is about 125 sq.m altogether.

We think that the lake house is unique in that it offers luxury accommodation literally alongside one of Sweden's most beautiful lakes, with the use of a jetty only 20 metres away. We have also constructed a beach, with fine sand and shallow water, ideal for young children to play, and for evening campfires and BBQs. Right outside the house you can sit and eat dinner while watching the sunset over the lake. Then why not have a sauna and go for a cooling swim in the lake before going to bed?

There is a small boat with an engine and a canoe that are available for rent. We can also provide fishing rods.

Privacy is another feature of this house that will appeal to many. There is no other house in sight or sound. The main manor house is 400m away and out of sight. The only sounds you are likely to hear are birds and the wind in the trees.
The house is designed for 6 in comfort, but to a maximum of 9.

Why not holiday in the winter? The house is fully insulated and heated, and has two real fireplaces with plenty of wood to burn. Taking a dip in a hole in the ice after a hot sauna is an experience not to be missed! Generally speaking, the lake is ice covered for safe ice-skating by Christmas, although of course this cannot be guaranteed. The jetty remains in the water/ice in the winter, and is a useful place to put on skates. In the late summer and autumn the mushrooming season is another attraction.
